A New Workplace Paradigm

A new paradigm for workplaces and organisations has emerged - with a more holistic view of success and people oriented systems to achieve it. We refer to the teams and organisations creating this as “Next-Stage Organisations”.

Teal Organisations, Holacracy, Sociocracy, and Agile are some established models, with numerous others in existence.

TeamWeave’s Learning Programs and Coaching are inspired by Teal Organizations concepts, as introduced in Frederick Laloux’s groundbreaking book, Reinventing Organizations (2014). However you don’t need to aspire to be a Teal Organisation, or use any of the other models, to participate and benefit in our programs.

If you are looking to get started, or take further what you have already begun, TeamWeave is here to help.

A New Way of Being

Becoming a Next-Stage Organisation requires a change in who we are and how we show up to work. A new way of ‘being’, for everyone in the team:

  • Being authentic with each other and seeking genuine connection. Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, and supporting others to do so;

  • Being open and transparent about what we do, to build and maintain trust;

  • Supporting people to grow, learn and be their best;

  • Caring for the impacts that our work has on society and the environment.

This can only happen in an emotionally, psychologically and socially safe environment. Primary responsibility for cultivating this safe environment is with the leader, and subsequently everyone else in the team. Our programs develop the skills and tools to create this safe environment, that ultimately supports this new way of being.

Another essential element to cultivate this new way of being is for people to have more autonomy, and a say in matters that affect them. Decision making is more collaborative and less ‘top down’, and systems allow people to be more autonomous whilst still aligned with the rest of the team. Our programs develop the skills and tools to do this too.

How Long Does it Take?

The journey to implement these changes and create a new way of working requires time and effort. It is not a quick fix. How long and challenging the journey will be is dependent on these four factors:

  • How different is this new way of working from how things are in your workplace now?

    How open and authentic are people and the leadership with each other? How safe it it to show some vulnerability? Do people not show vulnerability out of fear that it will be used against them? How much collaboration is there in decision making?

  • How familiar is this new way of being to people in the team?

    Do they already show some of these characteristics at work? How much do they live this way in their personal lives?

  • What is the capacity and willingness of the leadership? (Official leaders or those taking a lead role in the implementation).

    Capacity and willingness to hold a safe space, and lead by example? Have they participated in, or lead, group events where there is high levels of trust and vulnerability? Either in the workplace or in their personal life? How willing are they to open up, and to share decision making power?

  • How important is it to the team?

    What is it that people want to let go of and move on from? What do people want to get out of this? Is it worth the effort and challenges?

TeamWeave can support you and your team with the first three.

The fourth, how important is it, is up to you.
